Looking for Sales

I am currently looking for good deals online. I tried eBay, Amazon and Multiply, but I still can’t find the right goggles sale. My friends and I will be swimming soon and I need new goggles ’cause I can’t open my eyes in sea water. IT HURTS, I SWEAR!

I look forward to lounging around in the white beach and getting a nice tan. I’ve never played beach volleyball so my friends promised to buy a beach ball and let me play. I’m afraid volleyball isn’t really my sport, but I’m willing to try anything! I haven’t had a decent vacation in weeks, and I am totally looking forward to it.

I kind of want to make sandcastles, too, but I’m afraid I’m too old for that. It has never really been my forte, I’d just play with the sand and bury my friend leaving only his face and hands out to the sun for funsies.

What other beach activities do you guys usually do? Don’t forget to wear sunscreen!

Storm Preparation

Since storms are beginning to get pretty common nowadays, I guess it is appropriate that I start blogging about it for people to be aware! (Not that I have that many readers, but hey, at least I’m trying!)

Out of all the storm shelters available, I believe I’d recommend you to get the fiberglass storm shelter if you’re really considering getting one.

I keep repeating that old saying, but it’s true! Prevention is better than cure. Don’t wait for the disaster to strike before you regret not doing anything to prepare for it.

Tornadoes are nature’s violent storms, and believe me, I’ve seen the worst storms out here in my country. If tornadoes are worse than these, you’d really want to be prepared.

Think about your family and the investment that getting a storm shelter will give you. Your family will be safe, and your house value will increase with this. It’s a win win, in my opinion!

Thrifting over Brands

Have you seen the series called “Jersey Shore”? A lot of my friends watch it and I find it intellectually disturbing. I mean, it’s a show about rich people doing nothing but waste their money and party all day and night. The only good thing that I find in this show would be the Ed Hardy products. The brand offers some unique styles and I just can’t get enough of them.

My sister showed me this replica ed hardy store once, and I was quite amused. They sold goods similar to the original brand but with cheaper prices. Some of you might opt to buy from this branch, so I guess it’s worth checking out.

I myself prefer thrift stores over brands, they offer a wider range of styles and you get to have a big assurance that you most probably will be one of the very few people who have that specific item.

Sometimes television shows worry me about what the future generation will see on tv.

Up for halloween

I have been engaged in a very busy project at work that I lost track of time. I did not realize that Halloween is fast approaching. Big deal right? Well our family have a tradition of celebrating Halloween in one another’s houses. It happens in rotation and there is no excuse. Everyone will host a party or else…

It has been always fun though. This event is sort of a reunion for us and we always make it special. I remembered last year when all of us attended the even. Grandma was so pleased she made a speech and wept for joy. It really makes our family bond.

Anyway, my problem now is I have only a few weeks to plan for the party and I do not even have a theme. I also have to buy holiday cards and treats for my guests. I am not very fond of the ghosts and ghouls theme. Oh, how about a superhero theme? Justice league or avengers perhaps (you do not want Mightor running around your kitchen right?)

Oh well… I guess I have to start doing and stop thinking now.

The boss is out

What a fun day today turned out to be. Folks at the office somehow celebrated because my boss is on leave for a couple of weeks. One of my co-workers even gave us free lunch because he was so glad the boss was not around. Oh well, the party was not entirely because of Big Daddy’s absence (that’s what we call him). It was also the end of our 5 year engagement with a client. This client gave a really hard time, even made some good friends resign because of the stress.

Anyhow, it was like highschool all over again earlier today. We got the projector running and we had a “How I met your mother” marathon. It was so funny especially the 92nd episode about “the sexless inn keeper” to which some guys in the office were. I just could not stop laughing especially with all the eighteenth century breeches and fashion. It was just ingeniously funny. Oh well… I sure hope this couple of weeks never end.

Google Plus

Have you seen the new Google Plus? It’s amazing, I must say. As a lot of people have pointed out, it’s pretty much the same as Facebook, but it has a lot of quirky features on its own.

Take Circles, for example. Everyone isn’t just your friend, they fall under some category in which you choose for yourself, and you get to choose to share your information with a specific set of people and not everyone who has added you to their list.

One of the things I like most about Google Plus is the hangouts. It’s similar to conference call hosting, but it includes videos, much like Skype, and it updates your page and your friends’ streams if you just came from a hangout.

I think this social networking website can go places, unlike what happened to Google Buzz. That was a misfortunate thing to happen. Hopefully this wouldn’t suffer the same fate!

Blood diamonds

Earlier, as I was cleaning up my drawer, I found an unlabeled DVD inside one of my folders. Curious, I took my laptop and browsed at the data. It was full of avi movies which have not watched before. I remembered that I asked one of my colleagues to lend me a movie. I guess I forgot about it and just kept it in my drawer. Unfortunately, I forgot the person whom I borrowed from.

Anyway, the movie was Blood Diamond. Starring Leonardo DiCaprio. The movie was a real eye opener for me. I never new that people would go to such evil extents just to get their hands on diamonds. In the movie, there were children brainwashed to kill even their parents. They were being converted by the rebels.

One of the great lessons here is to not buy diamonds from just anyone. Trusted sellers like diamonds international get their diamonds through legal mining areas and not through slavery. Next time you buy jewelry, make sure to ask if the diamonds are legal.

Using GPS for tracking shipments

tips & tricks No Comments »

Technology has come a long way in the last decade. As I remember, it was just ten years ago since GPS had been commercially introduced. This kind of technology was just plain fiction in the Jetson’s series but now almost every car released has a GPS option.

Anyhow, GPS is a very important technology in our business. In my case, we rely on GPS for tracking deliveries and shipments. Part of the risk of the hauling business is hi-jacking. This is usual in pirate prone areas near the coast. Pirates steal target the items in the truck and usually take the truck with them. To track the items down, we installed the best trucker gps devices to every container and on the truck itself. So when unfortunate hijacking events like this occur, we sure to have some lead on how to track the items, with the police of course.

Since our business started eight years ago, our trucks have been hijacked four times. Two of those times our trucks have GPS installed and we retrieved all our items. This is how important GPS is to our business. It helps us in tracking down everything. Plus we get the client’s trust.

Different gifts for different occasions

tips & tricks No Comments »

Most occasions require us to bring gifts for the host. And usually, gift certificates and money are the easiest to give. However from a seminar on gift giving, I learned an important lesson – there are different gifts for different occasions.

For birthdays, anything can be given. The rule here is “give to express” your joy. Money is perhaps the last thing you should give here.

Company events such as awarding ceremonies are different. The rule is “give to impress” especially if you are giving gifts to your superiors. Let them be impressed by your gift. It pays forward.

For weddings, a combo gift of cash and boxed item is necessary. The rule here is “give to contribute” and “give to express” your happiness. Cash is always welcomed by the newly wed couple however it is easily forgotten. Make sure you buy something that will last for years so that they will remember that you gave it to them.

Finally, christening. Gifts for christening are perhaps the most tricky. The idea is to buy a gift that the child will use and the parents will enjoy. The tricky part is you must know the taste of the parents. For instance you might buy their child a pair of cute boots but their parents might think that it is too weird for a baby to wear boots –  that sort of thing.

So there. I am not saying that all of these ideas are right. Gift giving is special and for me it requires just sincerity. These ideas however are interesting to know.

To save up or get an insurance?

tips & tricks No Comments »

Most of us are concerned about our future so we prepare for it. And two things we can do is to save up or just get a life insurance.

To save up in the bank or just get an insurance? – this is the question.

In any situation, the basic idea is resolve the current problem then worry about the future problems later. The same idea applies to money. The priority should be to save up in the bank. Money that is in the bank is easily accessible. This can be used as emergency funds which is very important.

Life insurance is also important. It comes after the emergency funds. It is costly yes but what you pay for gives you peace of mind. However it is important to consider your present and future capability to pay for such investment. Also make sure that you will never need your emergency funds to pay for insurance otherwise it will be a financial disaster for you.
