Working continuously in front of a PC is such a pain in the ass (literally). Too often, this is the case for computer programmers in the office. They often say that their butt hurt and that their legs feel numb. This was often overlooked by the management until we discovered that this was a serious issue. These symptoms are caused by scoliosis. The company physician explained that long hours of sitting can cause scoliosis, a condition wherein the spine is unbalanced causing each part of it to dislocate. If left untreated, Scoliosis may lead to Herniated disc a.k.a slipped disc.To prevent this from worsening,  the doctor suggested that we replace our office furniture with ergonomic ones to promote proper sitting posture. Also, stretching up every two hours is essential in order to relax the spine. Exercise too was recommended for those feeling those symptoms. Regarding ergonomics… well… it is the science of correct posture.  Too often, what works for others may not always work for you because each of us is unique in terms of bone structure. What the doctor recommended are office furniture which are adjustable to fit different individuals. Although this may seem a big investment for the company, the boss approved it because he values his employees.
