My first ticket

Yesterday, my friends and I were on our way home from a fun fun road trip. We went from town to town trying all the specialty food and delicacies they could offer. On the interstate, a police car drove past us then signaled us to stop. Clueless at first, I parked the car and respectfully asked the policeman. As he explained, I was driving too fast and exceeded the speed limit. Curious, I asked how he measured my driving speed and he bragged his newly issued Radar detector. He said that Cobra radar detectors are one of the most accurate detectors in the market. Convinced, I surrendered my license to him.

He issued me a speeding ticket and it was actually my first time. I guess I enjoyed the trip with my friends that I forgot the speed limit. My friends were all laughing at me when I returned to the car. They kept on making fun of me until we arrived home. It was fun anyway. When I got home, I immediately scanned my ticket and posted it on facebook. This was my first ticket.

Wedding preparations

Right now I am in a salon getting a pedicure for later’s big event. Today is my sister’s wedding day so everyone is busy preparing for it. My sister’s fiance’ is a Filipino and they have very sophisticated wedding rights different from here in the US. They have a long entourage with twelve pairs of sponsors, imagine that. Not to mention six cute pairs of pretty flower girls and ring bearers wearing bow ties who they are dressing up right now. Anyhow, I think everything will be wonderful. I am actually so excited especially because they hired a famous recording artist just to sing for them at the wedding. Hmm… I do not envy her though. Sometimes I kinda wonder what MY wedding will be like. Personally what I prefer is a fun fun beach wedding. You know, like the Hawaiian themed weddings? But anyway enough with the mumbling… need to finish dressing up!

On moving in

I helped my friend move in to his new apartment last June 5. I volunteered to be the muse and driver. Hehehe. I also told him my helping out would be his housewarming gift from me.

I love moving in. The last time I’ve done that was at Queensborrough way back in 2007. Actually, it’s the settling down, shopping, and arranging that I love most when moving in. There’s literally this blank space all for you and it’d be up to you how it would turn out. It’s very exciting.

I helped my friend pick out a linoleum as well. We settled for a large black and white checkered pattern. Being quite paranoid, my friend kidded about buying some convex mirrors to make sure his place is secured. I laughed and we agreed that’s way to OA. He did however bought several new locks for his apartment door.

I’ve been bugging him for pictures of his new apartment for the longest time and he promised he’ll just bring me there so I can see it in all its glory as soon as everything’s fixed. That’d work for me. ^_^

Lousy training

Ugh I cannot keep my eyelids from closing. I am undergoing a Project Management training right now and my manager is the one presenting the slides in front. I already had three cups of coffee in the past 2 hours alone yet my eyes are still very heavy. My sub-conscious mind has been telling me to get out of the room since the training started. Just to give you an idea, picture this: a big, fat, bearded fella who has a southernish accent and a very low toned voice. Excruciating isn’t it? Good thing I was not the only one drowsy.

Anyhow, I just keep myself entertained so as not to be noticed. Hmm… looking at my manager, I think he really needs the best fat burner in the market. Oh he also needs to try out waxing to remove his facial hair. Hehe… Nah I guess I need to focus now, I think the training is done already. Oh crap, we have a pop quiz?!

My new lawyer friend

Yesterday was a fun night at my friend’s house warming party. She invited friends and colleagues to sleep over at her place to have barbecue and do a movie marathon. This is where I met Carla, my new friend, who works as a lawyer in a prestigious law firm in NY. One thing interesting about her is that, she is a Mesothelioma lawyer.

FYI, Mesothelioma is a form of cancer which is caused by asbestos poisoning. This is common among those who worked for ships and submarines. However, this cancer takes so long to form. Usually after twenty years after the exposure to asbestos. So being a lawyer for these cases must be very challenging. It’s like having a 50 year old case with expired evidences. Anyhow, she explains that she already won many cases regarding this disease. She said that it is only fair to seek justice from previous employers who were the cause of this medical condition. I was actually quite amazed that even decade-old cases can still be put to justice.

Anyhow, aside from being a lawyer, she also loves blogging so that makes both of us. I got her email add and I hope I could meet her again.

Jan-June 2010 updates to Jehan

While waiting in line for my turn at the atv at the newly opened theme park within our area, I received an sms from my Nth level college friend Jehan who migrated in Canada. Her sms read, “Hi! I hope you are well. Take some time this weekend to write me (an email). Hugs from Jehan”. I was actually quite alarmed and surprised. It’s the first time she did that – ask me to write her.

I texted back and promised I’ll email her the next day, which is today. I just finished my long email to Jehan and was surprised at the fact that although a lot of things have happened, our distance pretty much hasn’t been a barrier between us; cause I know deep down, we’re the same freshman idealistic students who loves life and will continue loving life. I was also glad she asked me to update her. I never realized how much I missed her and how much I’ve been wanting to talk (or write in this instance) to somebody until she texted me. I hope all’s well with her though. Receiving a message from her like that is quite unusual, in a good way. ^_^

Diet pill warning

Just want to warn you guys about appetite suppressants. Always consult your physician before trying out these things because you’ll never know what chemicals they have in them. Take for example a friend of mine who bought weight loss pills in the net. She was happy with the results at first. She lost a lot of weight but after a month of use, she experienced the nasty side effects. She experienced headaches, insomnia, fainting, and other serious symptoms. Whenever she ate some food, even if it is in small amounts, she vomits the food out. It is like her stomach could not digest anything anymore. She was by the way hospitalized soon after.Do not get me wrong, I do not have anything against diet pills because I use an appetite suppressant called phentremene too. However I consulted my doctor and even did my own research before trying it out. It really helps to know exactly what you are taking in your body.

Investing in currency?

mumblings No Comments »

Have you heard of the term bullion before? Well I was in a meeting earlier with some clients and during the break they were all talking about “investing in gold and bullion”. I am not sure if the bullion they were talking about is just another term for stocks or something. Either way this made me so curious that I approached the client and asked.Good thing the client was in the mood to give me a brief lesson about protecting investments. He told me that there are instances when it is best to invest money on gold especially if you foresee it to increase in value. The concept is just the same as buying stocks. Buy it, let it increase in value, then sell it. Bullions however are a little different. These are bundles of precious metals like coins which control the currency. So this is sort of investing in currency values rather than in stocks. Confusing? Well, I still am confused too. Hehe.

Just ranting to sleep

I am not an avid fan of sleeping pills or sheep-counting just so I could fall asleep immediately. In other words, I am not in need for any best sleeping aids, at least not until recently. Before, I just close my eyes and settle myself in bed, soon I’ll be fast asleep but now I just have a few hours of sleep then in the morning I wake up like I haven’t slept at all.Sleeping pills scare me. No reason at all, they just kinda freak me out. Sheep-counting is tiring ( and it’s not like I’m a Mr. Bean who practically falls to bed asleep immediately after counting sheep from his cardboard filled with pictures of sheep ). Plus, I do not sleep immediately when I’m tired. I always end up having ridiculously scary nightmares and wake up in the middle of the night, or maybe dawn, with my heart pounding and racing. And it’s as if I’m always in paranoia mode, I always had to remember to position myself sideward, ‘cause it’s also when I lay flat in bed ( as I’ve come to observe ) that I suffer weird nightmares. Sorry for ranting about these things. I am just trying to put myself to sleep.

Reminiscing my childhood days

All I wanted when I was a child were lots and lots of toys. I want my own room screaming of them. But my parents only gave me what they think I needed, and a very few of what I wanted. And of course, I didn’t get to have my own room screaming of toys. It would have satisfied most of my childhood fantasies, one room filled with all those preschool furniture and stuff that I can play and explore with. Though on the second thought, I kind of got what I sort of wanted. Not exactly a room with four walls, but one that is much wider and more adventurous. I can draw wherever and whatever I want without being punished for drawing on walls. I can run around and scream all I want. And I get to have my own set of toys through innovation. Like my own toy gun through pieces of wood, some nails, wires for trigger and rubber band for bullets. Spare cartons and cardboards put together to serve as playhouses. Wonder the dark with my improvised flashlight — an empty can of milk big enough to hold a candle inside, with wire as handle ( oh, and we get to put holes on the close end for various designs that is reflected when you lit the candle ). So now, I don’t really think I needed that one room, for it turned out that what my parents gave me was way better than what I wanted.
