Skin problems? Ask your kin what she did to solve it

tips & tricks, skin care, health & beauty No Comments »

Sometimes, it isn’t enough to just go by the recommendation of beauty ads and dermatologists when it comes to finding solution to skin problems such as acne. I personally have tried several dermatologists but majority of them failed to solve my acne problem. That is, until one of my relatives recommended her dermatologist.

Considering that she used to have an acne condition that’s worse than what I currently have, and that our genes are pretty much the same (which means what worked for her may most likely work for my skin type as well), I decided to go visit her dermatologist. What do you know, I was able to find the best acne creams through her dermatologist! Right now, my facial skin is almost scar and pimple free. ^_^

I only wish I figured the I-have-the-same-genes-with-my-relatives-consequently-similar-skin-type part sooner. That way, I need not endure the torture of looking at the mirror with those darn pimples smiling at me all this time. Oh well. They’re gone now. That’s what’s important.

Insect-bite-triggered eczema

Earlier I was in the derma clinic to have my skin checked up. I seem to have been irritated with a certain insect that bit me a few weeks ago. It was just a tiny insect much like a bug and it bit me. It started out as a red dot in my skin but it was very itchy. I tried several remedies yet the itchiness remained.

When the derma saw it, she instantly knew the problem. It was eczema, triggered by that insect bite. At first I doubted her opinion because I always thought that eczema is just characterized by goosebumps-looking rashes in the skin. She explained that there are different types of eczema and mine is somewhat common to those with dermatitis.

Anyhow, she prescribed some eczema treatments to take care of the itch and inflammation. She said that this is a conservative remedy for my condition. In case it does not work for me, she will need to inject some steroids directly into my wound. Now I’m really scared. Damn that insect!

The solution to the mysterious acne

Often times, when people experience breakouts, they ask for the best acne treatments available. Come to think of it, how can an acne treatment be considered best if there are different skin types and different causes of acne? Until now, science still has not been able to pinpoint exactly the main cause of acne. Some doctors may say that it is hereditary while some say it’s because of the oil that is clogging our pores. Just the same, they are not really sure why acne is only affecting some people while some don’t get acne at all.

From the studies that i have read, one thing is for sure. Acne is cause by toxins in our body. The only way we could stop acne is to get rid of those toxins. To do that we need to live a healthy lifestyle - eating more vegetables, drinking more fluids, and doing plenty of exercise. In addition, a healthy relaxed mind improves your overall health too. So in summary, if you really want to lose or prevent acne, relax and be healthy.

Dealing with stress & depression

Do you know what’s better than Stimerex ES in making you lose weight? A combination of stress and depression. For some people anyway. To others, stress and depression does the opposite - it makes them fatter. The only major difference between weight loss products and undergoing stress and depression is that as you get thinner, you will also look uglier with the latter. After all, dark under eye circles and wrinkles are expected when you are undergoing stress.

Still, there are various ways to be able to cope up with stress and depression. To some, all they need is good food and someone to talk to. For people like me, a good night sleep can make me feel better. Then again, it depends on the level of stress or depression you’re currently undergoing. There are of course times, when sleep isn’t enough to help you get over it. Which is why multivitamins like Mosegor are a big help for me. It literally forces you to sleep – in a healthy way. So you get the sleep you need to be able to go through yet another day.

The wonders of concealers

When I went home yesterday night, I was shocked to see our neighbor’s babysitter, Marienel. She looked like she’s been crying all day. Concerned, I hesitantly approached her and asked what happened. She blankly stared at me and said, “Huh?”

I shared my observation about her looking like she’s been crying all day and the creases in her forehead increased in confusion. I just raised my eyebrows in question and concern. Then surprisingly, she laughed, hard. I thought she was going crazy, then she said, “It’s the eye concealer!”

This time, I was the one who gave her a blank stare. Marienel continued while giggling, “I forgot to put on my eye concealer that’s why my eye bags are all dark and I look like I’ve been crying.” Ah-hah! So that’s the culprit.

Frankly though, proper application of a good eye wrinkle cream with whitening action would be more helpful than using concealers. What do you think?

How white is naturally white?

health & beauty No Comments »

I have always been interested on getting my teeth whitened ever since college. Whenever I see celebrities with shiny white teeth, I can’t help but be envious. Fortunately, a friend of mine who is a Plano cosmetic dentist offered me a huge discount on teeth whitening. However, come to think of it, how white exactly is “naturally white” anyway? My dentist friend explained that whitening solutions can whiten your teeth to virtually the lightest shade but of course with some considerations. Whitening agents contain hydrogen peroxide, a form of bleach, that strip away layers of discolored layers of teeth. Longer exposures to this bleaching agent means whiter teeth. The problem however is there is a tendency for the teeth to get brittle as it is bleached so the exposure time is just limited.Naturally, teeth are white but with a tint of yellow. If you look at children’s teeth you will see the natural color of teeth. This is the shade that I must aim for. Any shade lighter than that and the teeth will look like dentures already. hehe.

The secret recipe to staying young and pretty

On my way to my room, I was surprised to hear my sister Anne wail out my name. She sounded really in despair so I immediately ran to her room. When I opened the door, I saw her freaking out on a tiny, almost unnoticeable wrinkle in her eye.

I didn’t know whether to strangle her for making me worry, or laugh out of relief because apparently, it wasn’t THAT bad. Anyway, she was really worried about looking old, so I recommended the best eye cream I’ve tried and tested so far. Yes, she hasn’t been using moisturizer and eye cream.

Frankly, at her age, using moisturizer and eye cream is already a given. Add sun block to your daily face regimen as well. Those three are the secret recipe to staying young and pretty!

Summer heat again

Summer is around the corner again. It’s just the second week of February yet it is sooo hot. I heard from the news that we are experiencing the “El Nino” phenomenon again - aka heat waves. The heat really is scorching making me feel like a vampire under sunlight.

During these times, the heat can cause problems especially in the skin. This is why we must always protect our skin from the harmful rays of the sun. Here are some of the tips I learned from good friends of mine:

  • Always drink plenty of fluids. This is important in order to prevent our skin from drying up.
  • No matter what others may say… use an umbrella when walking under the sun especially during noon.
  • Apply sunblock or day cream but please do this after taking a bath.
  • Lastly, air-conditioning further dries up the skin so it is necessary to apply moisturizers once in a while.
  • Oh and don’t forget to take vitamin C and E for glowing skin.

Talk about varicose veins

health & beauty No Comments »

Varicose veins are often thought of as just an aesthetic problem. What most people do not know, varicose veins are blood vessels which are clogged. hemorrhoid, or the large varicose veins may be painful and even fatal.

When the vein is clogged, the stagnant blood solidify and form thick wall. This may sometimes feel painful to touch. The blood clots in the vessels can even cause stroke if it reaches the brain.

To prevent varicose veins always remember to have a balanced diet and lots of exercise. Specialized stockings can also be used for hemorrhoid relief. Just a tip I learned from my doctor, make it a point to raise your legs before sleeping. Doing this for a few minutes a day allows the blood to easily return to the body and not get stuck in the legs.

Level up to rejuvenating cream

My dermatologist recently had me switch from acne cleanser to rejuvenating cream. The cream is actually quite expensive. Then again, at this age, it’s high time I start using one. After all, my skin cells is not that healthy as it was when I was just in my teens.

Moreover, I need to be more careful on what I put on my face - from make up content to make up remover. You can never be too careful. When in doubt on what facial product to use, again, just have your dermatologist go over the content.
