I slept in my parents’ room, and I haven’t for quite a while. I missed these times, where I’d hear them snore gently. It makes me smile to myself everytime I hear it.

That morning, however, wasn’t so pleasant. The sun’s rays directly pointed towards me, and my eyes hurt, so I suggested my parents to buy some blinds to prevent this from happening further. They’re quite old, and taking care of their eyes should be one of their priorities, as well.

It’s nice to spend time with your parents every once in a while, let them know that you still care.

Vision Mission at the office

Sean, one of my staff, emailed me at dawn informing me that he won’t be able to report for work due to severe headache. When he came in the next day, he said he’s still not feeling well and his head hurts like hell. He pointed the regions on where the pain is occurring which turned out to be the areas which indicate you have an eye problem.

It turns out that I was right because Sean said he used to wear eyeglasses but decided to stop wearing it because he gets dizzy. I told him it’s high time to consult an ophthalmologist – his vision is most definitely what’s causing his major headache. I referred him to my ophthalmologist which is really good and usually offers discount prescription eyeglasses. He promised to visit the doctor after work and update me on the progress. I told him he’d better, because I won’t excuse his leave the next day if his reason is still headache. Hehehe…

Jerry’s dad passed away

health & society No Comments »

Just heard from a Jerry, a good friend of mine, that his father passed away yesterday because of complications from lung cancer. It was a sad to hear because his father was one of the coolest dad I have ever met. Jerry and I used to live in the block so I often go to there house to hang out. His father is always at home because he already retired from his work from the navy. He always prepare us snacks and even rents cool videos for us. I kinda miss those days.

While discussing about the cause of his father’s death, Jerry told me that doctors suspected that the lung cancer could have been caused by his work in the navy. Since his dad worked as a mechanic in a submarine, he could have been exposed to asbestos that led to malignant Mesothelioma – a type of lung cancer that is caused by asbestos poisoning. Jerry also said that it is very unlikely for his dad to have lung cancer because he lives a healthy lifestyle and they do not know any relatives who had cancer. The problem with asbestos poisoning is that, the symptoms appear after 20 to 50 years of exposure. So it is hard to blame anyone about it. Anyhow, he is waiting for the autopsy results to find out.

Outer Banks here we come!

So my boyfriend and I were lying in bed one day. Actually this wasn’t just any other day, it was our first monthsary together. Now, normally I don’t really believe in celebrating that kind of thing, because I’m not like all girls who are just hopeless romantics that would literally crucify their boyfriends if they forgot their monthsary. But because I actually really like this guy, I was secretly hoping he’d remember and say something.

Now, of course, I was playing it casual and pretending that I didn’t know or care either. While I was lying there I kept thinking, “what if he’s trying to play it cool as well?” He is a guy after all, and they are notorious for that kind of thing (such cowards). Anyway it was nearing midnight and I finally decided to snap. But, just as I opened my mouth to give him the ol’ tantrum tongue lashing, He began to speak: “Guess what?”

“What?” I replied.

“I got us an Outer Banks rentals reservation. Please don’t freak out. See, I don’t know if you know, but it’s our monthsary and I just thought – ” I didn’t let him finish his sentence. I started wildly making out with him instead. I don’t even know where the heck Outer Banks is!

For most people, when they hear the word herpes simplex what comes into their minds is that it is a Sexually Transmitted Disease. However this is not entirely true. True that herpes simplex can be transmitted through sexual intercourse but it can also infect anyone using utensils of another infected person.

herpes simplex is a virus, which causes blisters in the affected area which is usually the genital area or the mouth. Hence Genital Herpes and Oral Herpes. Unfortunately, some who are infected with the Herpes virus may not even have these symptoms. This means that they can spread the virus without them knowing. Up to now, doctors still haven’t found the cure for this disease.

On dealing with depression

mumblings No Comments »

There are times when you’re just not in the mood or something’s just off or it’s just not your day. And then you tend to slouch, get grumpy, get sentimental, and worst worsen everybody else’s day. Then again, depression, whether it’s a routine attack or just “one of those days”, is just a state of mind, and I hate psychiatrists and psychologists.

So, my anxiety depression treatment? Well, movies make my day. Though I’m an avid fan of music as well, movies consume my mind taking all of my concentration with them. I get to escape the “not so good” moments and carry on from the current then after effects of the movie. I can deal with ice cream or some sweets, but they add up to the calories. With movies, I get to have acceptable reasons to cry, laugh my heart out, or be pissed and just curse out loud.

Tired of weight gain supplements that do not seem to do you any good? Are you fed up with the awful taste of those high protein cookies? I know you are but I also know that you don’t have a choice. You are too skinny and you barely create a shadow on the wall. Well, why not try taking soya milk!

Soya milk is a great tasting way to gain weight. It has been proven by experts to increase muscle mass in just a few weeks of regular intake. You do not even have to put effort because it tastes great. I saw some good brands advertised in muscle milk reviews websites and some of them have already been tried by my friends. What is best about this is, soya milk is organic and it will not give you any side effects, unless of course if you are allergic to soya – which means you’re and alien.

Hiring an online school graduate

For the first time in our company, we interviewed an individual who graduated in an online university rather than in a traditional graduate school. She took up BS Business in Information Technology from Western Governors Online University.

Even before,  I was already very curious about taking an online degree, so I took this chance to asked plenty of questions about online schooling. Basically I asked her to compare the quality of education and the methods of teaching in online universities and graduate schools.

She said that when it comes to learning materials, online schooling is the best. They give you modules on a regular basis for references and even provide you with video materials. They are given exams after every lesson just like in school and you really need to study hard. She also added, two things necessary before taking an online course is discipline and determination. Good thing about it is, if you are really focused on your study, you will even be better than those who study in school. I was amazed at how she managed to discipline herself on her online study. Personally, I am really interested in taking up an online masters degree so she suggested some online mba courses that I can take up. The quality of education may not be that equal for all online schools but in my opinion, Western Governors University is certainly a top of the line online university.

After the interview, I gave her a technical exam to really prove her knowledge about the job. As expected, she passed the exam with a very high score and so she was hired right on. With this, I guess the company will now consider hiring more graduates from online universities.

Skin problems? Ask your kin what she did to solve it

Sometimes, it isn’t enough to just go by the recommendation of beauty ads and dermatologists when it comes to finding solution to skin problems such as acne. I personally have tried several dermatologists but majority of them failed to solve my acne problem. That is, until one of my relatives recommended her dermatologist.

Considering that she used to have an acne condition that’s worse than what I currently have, and that our genes are pretty much the same (which means what worked for her may most likely work for my skin type as well), I decided to go visit her dermatologist. What do you know, I was able to find the best acne creams through her dermatologist! Right now, my facial skin is almost scar and pimple free. ^_^

I only wish I figured the I-have-the-same-genes-with-my-relatives-consequently-similar-skin-type part sooner. That way, I need not endure the torture of looking at the mirror with those darn pimples smiling at me all this time. Oh well. They’re gone now. That’s what’s important.

Insect-bite-triggered eczema

health & beauty No Comments »

Earlier I was in the derma clinic to have my skin checked up. I seem to have been irritated with a certain insect that bit me a few weeks ago. It was just a tiny insect much like a bug and it bit me. It started out as a red dot in my skin but it was very itchy. I tried several remedies yet the itchiness remained.

When the derma saw it, she instantly knew the problem. It was eczema, triggered by that insect bite. At first I doubted her opinion because I always thought that eczema is just characterized by goosebumps-looking rashes in the skin. She explained that there are different types of eczema and mine is somewhat common to those with dermatitis.

Anyhow, she prescribed some eczema treatments to take care of the itch and inflammation. She said that this is a conservative remedy for my condition. In case it does not work for me, she will need to inject some steroids directly into my wound. Now I’m really scared. Damn that insect!
