Anorexia – fashion influence

health & diet, health & society No Comments »

Perhaps you have also noticed that today’s fashion is really centered on the thin women. Yep, thin women, not the curvy sexy women and certainly not the chubby ones. I think it has something to do with the eastern fashion influencing the industry. So since thin is in, it follows that people also want to be thin. Whether or not they are fat, they still want to be thinner. So this is where the problem arises.

Being in a strict diet is good for those who are fat, not just for the great figure but also for health reasons. Reasons like increased energy due to lesser weight, lower cholesterol levels and better sugar levels are just some I could think of. Usually, a combination of exercise and diet supplements is needed for the weight loss program to be effective. Diet for the thin people, however, may not be a good idea as this may lead to Anorexia – a condition wherein the body rejects the intake of food.

Anorexia is sometimes more difficult to treat because of the psychological aspect of the condition. Usually, anorexics undergo counselling and rehabilitation in order to be treated. It is alarming that more and more people, especially teenagers suffer from this condition, all because of the influence of fashion in their lives.

At first sight of pimples, we do not usually go to the dermatologists. Instead, we try our luck with some home remedies for acne that we Googled in the net. Some might work, but some can worsen the situation. Acne is not just like any wound which you can put cream on then let to heal. It is a skin condition that is caused by several factors like genes, hormone imbalance, bacteria or even irritants like dust. It really depends on your skin. Some people outgrow acne as they pass puberty while some have them when they already in their twenties. Unfortunately, when we realize that we used the wrong medication for our acne, the condition has already worsened.

Dermatologists studied about acne and other skin conditions all their lives. They check our skin condition first before they prescribe creams or ointments. In other words, they know what to do. So if you are not a dermatologists, stop thinking like one and do yourself a favor, stop putting that Colgate in your pimples and have a checkup instead. By the way, this is a message for a friend of mine who is too stubborn to listen to me. You know who you are ;p

Fell off the table – just one of those days…

I have been aching for yoga these past few days. My body is so stiff and feels like my joints are rusting. I was not able to attend yoga sessions this week because of the hectic schedules. Too bad I was not able to complete the thirty-day challenge in yoga for they were giving away big discounts for those who complete the challenge. Damn these deadlines! Grrr.Anyhow, I guess I’ll just do the challenge next month. I won’t be able to do yoga anyway because of the bad knee. It’s just one of those days when my body is not coordinated well with my brain. Well, I kinda fell off the table yesterday while replacing my worn-out light bulb (stupid stupid me). My knee was a bit swollen until now. Honestly, I am worried that my knee is damaged because of what happened last year to a friend of mine. He had an accident while playing basketball and his kneecap was cracked. It took him months to fully recover so it was really quite a big hassle for him. If that happened to me, I would probably lose my job. So I consulted our good old company nurse and she said that it was just a bruise and I just have to give it a few days. Good thing it was just a bruise. Oh! and coincidentally, an add popped out of my browser saying click here. Guess what it was about? Talk about timing eh.

Now go. Train.

21 days left to train for the Condura Run.
Memories of cramming for exams are flashing through my mind.

Think positive.
Remember what Lance Armstrong said in the Nike+ training mp3. “Pain is temporary. Quitting is forever”.
If Tessa Prieto can finish the 21k then so can you.

Think back at what you’ve accomplished so far.
You’ve completed 7 2-minute aerobic intervals on the nordictrac at high inclines and speeds, run circles around other runners in the olympic track, and conquered the Heartbreak Hill in the university.

YOU are almost ready.

Think ahead. Don’t be lazy.
Imagine the flyover and Skyway. They will try to stop you and they will succeed if you even think of slacking off at training.

Breathe. Relax.
Don’t be too competitive. Pace yourself. You are doing this for yourself and ofcourse for the dolphins.

Imagine the that the finish line is near.
The sound of people cheering you on is the sound of success.
That is the moment. The moment that makes everything worthwhile.

Now go. Train. Enough of this psyching-out-yourself thing.

It meant BUSINESS!

Mon, Myka, Gab, Anj, Mike, Carlo, and me, decided to go to the gym together two weeks ago. Six of us got their early and decided to have some snacks at the cafeteria while we wait for Mike. It wasn’t gonna be one of those serious days in the gym, we were just going to have fun while burning a few calories together. When Mike came we immediately saw a what we call an adult acne.

Yes, it was a full grown acne and it meant business. He was so pissed at it because basically he was going out on a date in a week’s time and that amount of time will not make a serious acne like that go away magically.

I had a perfect remedy for such a situation like that. What I would do was ice it in the morning and at night after washing my face. Dab on some lemon juice and take vitamin C. He did it religiously and in a week’s time it was barely there.

He ended up booking another date with that girl this weekend. And so far, things are looking good.

High school reunion after 10 years

My high school friend Linj texted me just now informing me that we’ll have a high school overnight reunion on January 23rd. She said it’ll be an Orlando vacation trip sponsored by the batch ’85.

It’s been almost 10 years since I graduated high school. I’m still thinking if I’m joining though. I’m not really into big reunions and although I’m good friends with my entire batch mates, the few close high school friends I have might not be going as well. Anyway, I still have a few days to decide. Let’s see how my week goes. Perhaps the overnight may just be what I need to unwind in my recently very hectic month.

Waist trimming for my sister’s wedding

health & beauty, health & diet, mumblings No Comments »

The time to reduce belly fat is NOW!

For me anyway.

My sister Anne’s wedding is on the 16th of February. She gave her entire family very specific requests (more of threat) that we all have to look gorgeous on her wedding day. That includes trimming down. She doesn’t want anyone who looks ugly to be in her wedding. It was more of a loving threat though, but I took it as a challenge of course.

I have already enrolled in Bikram Yoga with my friend last January 4. But to make sure that I get a very gorgeous figure in time for her wedding, I’ll be cutting down on my carbohydrates as well. And, as my friend Mark suggested, I need to take vitamin C as well since this helps burn fat.

I already bought a gold and black dress this Saturday for her wedding and I look really great in it! Now if I’ll just trim down on my waste, I’ll definitely look fabulous in it. ^_^

Oh Ana!

When Ana got engaged 2 years ago, what should have been a 6-months planning became 4 months. She basically didn’t have time to lose weight with just exercising. What she did was she coupled exercising and diet with the best weight loss product that’s currently out in the market.

She looked fantastic in her wedding dress! Everyone was wowed by her entrance as she walked down the aisle; she never looked as gorgeous as that for the longest time.

Her groom was of course in tears. They went through a lot of hardships together and finally they were tying the knot. Now 2 years after their engagement, they’re more happy as ever. They couple are now expecting their 1st child and she looked blooming.

I’m sure getting her wedding body back won’t be too hard especially since she was been sticking to her exercise and good diet.

Benzoyl Peroxide, what is it?

health & beauty, skin care No Comments »

I kept hearing about Benzoyl Peroxide as acne treatment. What I do know is that it is used for bleaching hair and teeth. Yesterday, when I encountered its review from tazorac, I was finally enlightened. Benzoyl Peroxide is actually the most popular acne treatment available in the market nowadays. This is because it has been clinically proven to work and is often recommended in prescription form by many dermatologists.

Then again, we need to keep in mind that it has side effects like dependency, irritation, and even allergies. So for those who have not used it yet, especially for those with sensitive skin, it is best to seek advice from your trusted dermatologist first. After all, what works for one person may not necessarily work for another. What’s worse is that it may even do harm than good to you.

Cheers to 2010 savings!

It’s 2010. Currently on top of my New Year’s Resolution, contending with Asian Cruise, is to be able to save 300,000 before I turn 28. Robert Kiyosaki said, “If you want to go somewhere, it is best to find someone who has already been there.

At the moment, my friend and financial manager, Mark, is my role model in anything finance related. He’s been able to wheedle out of almost all finance charges and annual credit card fees most of the time. This is because he is knowledgeable about how the fees and interest works, and thus was able to make it work for him. Imagine getting to use your credit cards without worrying about annual fees and finance charges… you’ll definitely be able to save a lot!

Since I met him, he’s been giving me lots of tips on budgeting as well. So far, I have been able to apply his advices. In fact, just this month, I was able to save money by having my three credit cards waive my annual fee! Amazing isn’t it?

With his help, I’m positive my aim to have the 300K will materialize soon! ^_^
