An ideal health plan for my parents

health highlights No Comments »

I have been searching for a health plan for my parents since I started working. Something similar to my aunt’s Blue Cross Blue Shield NC wherein the members are covered across the nation and in more than 200 countries and territories worldwide. I didn’t think there’s such a thing in my area until the HMO in my company gave us an orientation and tackled the Blue Cross.

I’m so happy! ^_^ I finally get to have a peace of mind regarding that area. My parents are getting old after all. And the older the person is, the more prone to health problems they are, and the more expensive the treatment is since they are in a more fragile state.

To cap it off, I found out that most of their coverage is 100% of the bill and there’s no need for a general physical exam upon enrollment even if they are 60+ up! Now all I have to do is rebudget my salary so I can accommodate the monthly rates for that. 0:j

Easy clean up kitchen

mumblings No Comments »

Everyone who loves to cook loves a good kitchen. And for a kitchen to be considered “good”, it must be easy to work with and easy to clean up.

I have been used to the conventional L-shaped, tiled kitchen we have at our parents’ home. It is okay to work with because everything is within reach. The problem is the tiled surface is hard to clean up especially when molds form in the tile grout. So I’m planning to have the kitchen renovated for the family’s sake.

The new kitchen models have gotten rid of the mold problem. Using metal surface and copper sinks prevents stains from sticking and avoids molds from forming up. Also, the newer kitchen cabinets are made of metal and plastics to prevent pest infestation. It’s a lot more expensive than the old kitchen types but I guess the additional cost will be worth it.

Choosing the right netbook

I have been drooling over the new model netbooks for a while now but because of the different models to choose from, it is very difficult to decide. netbooks are very portable PC’s which are tailored for the net. They offer fast connection, long battery hours, and light weight for the people on the go. These small PC’s, though not as powerful as the laptops, can be used for everyday computing such as typing, photo editing, surfing, and blogging.

All the netbooks I have seen seem to have the same processing power, same graphics, and same screen size. They only differ in physical appearance and nothing more. This makes it harder to choose because the branded ones cost a lot higher than the not so branded models. But with the same specs, I guess I’ll just go for the better looking model.

SDT annual exam

As a part of their medical benefits, the software development team held their annual physical exam. They were given a general check-up which involved x-rays, laboratory tests, stress test, and physical exam. The results were not good as eight out of ten employees either have high blood sugar or back problems.

These symptoms may lead to even more disorders so the doctors gave the whole company a seminar regarding why this is happening. The seminar was about having a healthy lifestyle – eating the right food and doing plenty of exercise (which is impossible for software developers). Exercise relieves stress and helps the body excrete toxins and burn excess sugars. It also strengthens the muscles and relieves back aches.

Our company gives priority to fitness and health so we teamed up with a fitness gym and encouraged the employees to attend class regularly. This way, we will be keeping our employees, our greatest asset, fit and happy to work for us.

It’s fashionable to walk in comfort

The title originated in northern Israel in the late nineteen-eighties and has quickly conquered the world. This isn’t surprising. After all, who wants to walk around in heels every day?!

Naot's stylish Currently, comfortable shoes and sandals such as Crocs, Havaianas, and Naot sandals have taken over the market. Majority of this line of shoes has features wherein the footpad is a “negative” print of the foot, just like the footprint we leave when walking in the sand. Amazing, isn’t it?

I don’t like seeing people wear the exact sandals I have so I think I’m going for Naot’s stylish “Carmen” sandal. Its elegant look with its strap design and gold ring, tied up with with a suede foot-bed that is made of latex and cork materials for extra shock absorption, plus the man-made out-sole for a more flexible and lightweight feel definitely won me over.

It takes pain to be beautiful” is out; “comfort in style” is in.

A glimpse on medical malpractice

For those who do not know, medical malpractice is basically “A form of negligence where an injury results from a medical professional’s or medical facility’s failure to exercise adequate care, skill or diligence in performing a duty.” In short, it is the result of a healthcare provider’s failure to provide the expected standard of care.

You see, despite the fact that doctors are THE health experts, we need to keep in mind that they too are humans; they are prone to errors and misjudgments. Consequently, many people are injured or even killed due to medical mistakes.

That’s why the world is a much better place to live in with lawyers such as the Rochester medical malpractice attorney. Just to give you an idea, some of the most common ways that medical malpractice occurs is through failure or errors in:

  • timely diagnosis and ordering appropriate treatment
  • ordering necessary tests and proper medication
  • consulting with specialists
  • surgical procedures

Do take note that medical malpractice claims are one of the most difficult areas of litigation. This is because the negligent action must be documented and proven within specific guidelines. Consequently, to ensure that you are on the right track, make sure to get only a skilled medical malpractice lawyer that can qualify the merit of your case.

Colon Cleansing: Is it necessary?

fitness advice, health & technology, health & society No Comments »

I’ve seen, heard, and read about colon cleansing and its advantages and disadvantages. Several products, such as Colonix, which claims to produce this effect, are out in the market nowadays. Then again, is it necessary?

Just so you know, Colon cleansing or colon therapy, according to Wikipedia, “encompasses a number of alternative medical therapies intended to remove fecal waste and unidentified toxins from the colon and intestinal tract.”

I browsed over some readings and the usual claim is that colon cleansing, also known as colonic irrigation, removes toxins that can cause a variety of health problems, such as arthritis, allergies and asthma. Consequently, it promotes healthy intestinal bacteria, boosting your energy and enhancing your immune system.

Then again, up to now, there is little scientific evidence to support or refute the benefits of colon cleansing. In fact, the bowel itself is not dirty and cleans itself naturally without need for assistance. Also, frequent colon cleansing may interfere with the proper functioning of the colon and can lead to dependence on laxatives or enemas to defecate. To cap it off, the FDA has issued several letters warning manufacturers and suppliers of colon hydrotherapy equipment about making false claims of effectiveness, safety issues and quality control violations.

Do take note that doctors prescribe colon cleansing as preparation for medical procedures such as colonoscopy. However, most don’t recommend it for detoxification. It’s generally unnecessary and at times may even be harmful.

Before having your colon cleansed, consult your doctor first.

On being healthy indoors

*sigh* It’s been weeks since I got sick, and although I got my appetite back (more or less), I still need to gain some weight to look and feel healthy.

I’ve been planning on taking swimming lessons since last month. But due to several unforeseen circumstances, and now the extremely rainy weather, that may not happen anytime soon. Which is why I’m leaning towards something indoor… Perhaps Yoga or even just the basic treadmill.

Hmmm… I think I’ll go for treadmill for now. After all, it’s not only indoor, I can also use it at my convenience – even while watching my favorite TV series. ^_^ Now where do I get the money to buy that equipment…

On concentrated mineral drops

alternative medicine, food & nutrition No Comments »

Have anyone tried using CMD before? CMD stands for Concentrated Mineral Drops. A friend of mine gave it to me as a sample. It is a mineral supplement that came from salt lakes, at least that’s what she told me. I have been a fan of alternative medicine since I got hospitalized due to side effects from Ventolin. I prefer natural food supplements over OTC drugs when I have a choice. The CMD is new to me so I just tried it once, although my friend is using it regularly at home.

CMD claims to contain 72 trace minerals which the body needs to maintain health. It even claims to have weight loss effects similar to ephedra diet pill. The odd thing about CMD is that, when you add a few drops to a liter of water, the water will taste similar to mineral water. So this kept me thinking if the bottled mineral water sold in stores is just plain tap water with drops of CMD. Feel free to comment guys.

The Neverending Issue About Pills

tips & tricks, fitness essentials No Comments »

I have realized one thing. Even if you say that diet pills exist to help you lose weight… It still is entirely up to you. I mean, you can take one of the top diet pills but if you don’t have the discipline to take it regularly, or to eat the right kind of food, it’s all nothing. I cannot stress this enough.

I realized this when my cousin started taking diet pills, she was getting thin for a bit, but she was inconsistent and she stopped, now she’s even fatter than before, no offense. Learn from the mistake of others, guys, and have discipline, that’s all I can give you.
