On staying pretty for the wedding

ARGH! I just realized that it’s less than two weeks before my friend JC’s wedding and I cannot believe I’m still in the recuperating state from the URTI bacterial infection. This cannot be happening!

I’ve been planning to become the prettiest bridesmaid on his wedding since last year for crying out loud! At this stage, even my new Dansko that goes really well with the pink and black bridesmaid dress will not help in making me feel pretty. *sigh*

Oh well, at the moment, my main concern should really be recovering completely… After all, the GLOW always comes from within.

A breath of fresh air

Wow! I finally received JC and Hiroko’s wedding invitation today! It had the nice pink and black theme on it. To cap it off, it’s not the usual parchment paper, formal, elegant wedding invitation. It’s sort of a comic but classy invitation with several amusing pictures of the couple. ^_^ I love it.

The invitation was a breath of fresh air after spending several days recuperating at home. It reminded me of something to look forward to.

I immediately went online in YM and informed JC that I got the invitation. We got into talking about the wedding details and guess what?! They’re going into one of those Caribbean cruises for their honeymoon! I’m so jealous! Going on a cruise has been like my lifelong dream! Oh well, it’ll be my turn someday. 0;)

Doctors know best

I’ve been sick with fever (39° temp) and colds since after our Company Outing last Saturday, June 27. I decided to go to the doctor on Tuesday for a checkup and to get a medical certificate as well since the last time I was this sick was… when I was in high school?!

Anyhow, I wanted to avail of my HMO card’s perks so I went to this posh HMO-affiliated hospital. It’s my first time to go to a private hospital alone and to avail of their services through the card. I was afraid it’d be like going to some Outer Banks foreclosures session wherein there are tons of people and the queue is long due to the high demand, especially with the ah1n1 scare right now. I was quite happy to know that the procedure was quite efficient and fast.

The only problem I encountered was the similarity of my sickness’ symptoms to ah1n1. I ended up going to the ER for a consult, wearing a mask amidst a pool of coughing ah1n1-positive looking people, and having my blood sample taken at 1 p.m. for CBC to rule out Dengue as the cause of my ailment.

Since I have been there since 9:30 a.m. and waiting for the medtech to draw my blood sample took more than 45 minutes (or so I think since I was really hungry by that time), by the time the medtech got my blood sample, I was quite restless and annoyed. I mean, all I wanted was a medical certificate to present to my company!

Good thing my friend Mark joined me for lunch at Wendy’s (yeah, I know, very healthy) otherwise I would have been in an extremely sickly-grouchy mood. Not a very good combination. It was really sweet of him to go out from his work to accompany me for lunch.

When I got back to the hospital for the result of my CBC, I had a complete turnabout on the necessity of the CBC test – they found that I have URTI Bacterial infection and told me to take 2-3 days rest. Thank God the doctor insisted I take that test. That’s just what I need. A week off. If only I could get well quickly so I can start enjoying that time off…

Anyhow, next time your doctor recommends you to undergo a series of test, don’t hesitate (especially if you have a health card paying for it 0;) ). After all, they ARE the expert and they know what they’re doing.

The Transformers

My sister and I just finished watching the Transformers: the Revenge of the Fallen yesterday. It was a pretty good movie, but I wouldn’t say that it would be worth it to watch on IMAX.

It had good cgi and effects, but the storyline just wasn’t emphasized. I’d have to say, though, the lighting at every scene, including the ones shot in Egypt were pretty amazing.

I have yet to learn the art and magic of computer graphics.

On Mac spare parts

If there’s one thing I don’t like about Mac, it’s got to be the hard to find spare parts. I bought my Mac yesterday to get its ram upgraded. The problem is, every Mac store I visited had no mac memory available. I was in a hurry to get it upgraded because I must run a memory intensive application given by a client. Don’t get me wrong, I love my Mac. I won’t trade this brand for any other high-end PC in the market. My Macbook is already two years old yet I’m still very satisfied with its performance. Anyhow, I had no choice but to order online. I just hope they get it delivered within a week. If not I’m dead! Oh well… I must formulate a backup plan now, in case things get worse.

On channeling depression to motivation

It has been a very stressful and depressing week for me. Imagine having your business partner say to your dream business, “Let go.” *sigh*

Anyhow, I was so depressed that I decided to unwind and do some window shopping. After all, I don’t want to undergo another bout of stress-related diarrhea. Two weeks of that are enough to last me for a lifetime.

While window shopping, I ended up going over outdoor chaise lounges. In fact, I fell in love with the “Hallo Wicker Outdoor Daybed with Canopy”. It’s just what I need for the rooftop. ^_^ I can relax and enjoy the view from the top any time of the day, at a very comfy position – on top of a day bed – without having to worry about the scorching heat of the sun thanks to the canopy!

I can just see myself blogging from that daybed. *grins* Oh well, instead of moping, I’m going to channel my depressed energy into working hard to be able to buy one of those for me. 0:D

Healthy Passion

My friend Andrea and I were planning out our health routine for the next 3 months at the Sahara hotel. I had been slacking off on eating, sleeping, and exercising properly for the last few weeks and it certainly wasn’t doing me any good. So today, we decided to start eating healthy and to swim. For breakfast we had oats and cereal and a banana shake. For lunch we decided to get a fulfilling salad. And for dinner we’re planning on getting grilled fish. I’ve always been a healthy eater. It’s just that when you’re busy and always on the go, you can’t help but sometimes slack off. I hope we keep this up. Bonne chance!

Be Happy, Be Healthy

It’s nice to relax at home once in a while to escape the stressful problems at work. And there’s no better way to de-stress than sipping grandma’s home-made gourmet hot choco while sitting in the garden patio sets. Aaaaah… this is the life.

Stress can really wear you down. It doesn’t only make you feel old, it really makes you old. Stress causes the body to release toxins. Some research showed that you are more prone to cancer if you are always stressed. The immune system weakens when under stress, which makes you susceptible to different diseases.

So I guess the Hakuna-Matata philosophy really has its benefits. Moral lesson: Be Happy! Hehehe.

Hypothyroidism makes you fat

A huge number of Americans suffer from thyroid disease without even knowing. Hypothyroidism is a condition that affects the body’s metabolism therefore making you fat and overweight. This is why some people, even if they did rigorous workouts and take the best best diet pills, cannot lose weight. Even the strictest diet will not have any effect because the condition causes the body to gain weight faster.

I always tell my friends that before taking measures to lose weight, they must first consult a physician to know exactly what to do. Doctors run some tests to see if you really have Hyperthyroidism. Getting any illness that causes you to gain much weight is the first step in solving your problem.

Free upgrade for the humiliation

I’m definitely stressed-out after what happened yesterday. I was conducting a seminar regarding health and safety when my laptop showed a BSOD error (Blue screen of death)! Fortunately, my assistant bought a backup notebook so I guess he saved me from much humiliation. Anyhow, this was not the first time my laptop crashed in the middle of the conversation. It already happened before, and even worse, in a health convention! This is a core 2 duo laptop so I dont think I need to buy a new one and so  just sent it to the service center. It was just a faulty memory chip which made it crash. The technician replaced the memory and even gave me a free memory upgrade after telling them the much humiliating experience I got from it. Yeah, I just exaggerated, but I got a free upgrade didn’t I? Now it’s working perfectly, even faster than before.
