I’ve been sick with fever (39° temp) and colds since after our Company Outing last Saturday, June 27. I decided to go to the doctor on Tuesday for a checkup and to get a medical certificate as well since the last time I was this sick was… when I was in high school?!
Anyhow, I wanted to avail of my HMO card’s perks so I went to this posh HMO-affiliated hospital. It’s my first time to go to a private hospital alone and to avail of their services through the card. I was afraid it’d be like going to some Outer Banks foreclosures session wherein there are tons of people and the queue is long due to the high demand, especially with the ah1n1 scare right now. I was quite happy to know that the procedure was quite efficient and fast.
The only problem I encountered was the similarity of my sickness’ symptoms to ah1n1. I ended up going to the ER for a consult, wearing a mask amidst a pool of coughing ah1n1-positive looking people, and having my blood sample taken at 1 p.m. for CBC to rule out Dengue as the cause of my ailment.
Since I have been there since 9:30 a.m. and waiting for the medtech to draw my blood sample took more than 45 minutes (or so I think since I was really hungry by that time), by the time the medtech got my blood sample, I was quite restless and annoyed. I mean, all I wanted was a medical certificate to present to my company!
Good thing my friend Mark joined me for lunch at Wendy’s (yeah, I know, very healthy) otherwise I would have been in an extremely sickly-grouchy mood. Not a very good combination. It was really sweet of him to go out from his work to accompany me for lunch.
When I got back to the hospital for the result of my CBC, I had a complete turnabout on the necessity of the CBC test – they found that I have URTI Bacterial infection and told me to take 2-3 days rest. Thank God the doctor insisted I take that test. That’s just what I need. A week off. If only I could get well quickly so I can start enjoying that time off…
Anyhow, next time your doctor recommends you to undergo a series of test, don’t hesitate (especially if you have a health card paying for it 0;) ). After all, they ARE the expert and they know what they’re doing.
