On being grateful during recession

With the global recession, a lot of companies are downsizing and people are getting laid off. Consequently, a lot of people are looking and competing for jobs. Sometimes, even the overqualified white collars are settling for health care jobs or something similar just to secure themselves a work.

In times like these, I’m grateful to have landed a good job that pays well, and I intend to harness all the knowledge and skills that I can to ensure that I stay in that position, and even get promoted if the opportunity permits.

Disability insurance

I have received different insurance offers before, most of them, just life and medical insurance. Nowadays, disability insurance is becoming more and more popular especially to employees with hazardous jobs. Last week, an agent offered me a comprehensive insurance that includes disability. It’s a bit expensive compared with the regular insurance but it certainly would pay off (that’s if you became disabled of course!).

I’m just wondering if these kinds of insurance are secured by the government. I mean, we have heard about insurance companies going down because of the recession right? So there’s no way to predict if these companies could still give us our benefits after several years. The benefits they offer really sound too good to be true so I guess I need to do much research before investing.
