The Luxury of Sitting

fitness advice No Comments »

I find home theater chairs epic. They’re comfortable, fun to play with, and yeah.. Ridiculously comfortable. And it comes with a container for sodas!

If you sit properly, it could actually help you get good posture. It doesn’t really matter on the chair, actually, but yeah. This reminds me of Darrell from Mad TV. Sorry, I’m being random. Anyway, good posture depends on DISCIPLINE. Not the chair. I’m just being totally random, and I apologize for that.

Support Nuclear Power Plants

I have been seeing a lot of global warming issues in the news lately. Lots of non-government organizations are speaking out their opinions, protesting about anything and everything that relates to pollution. Earlier on TV, I saw a Greenpeace representative being interviewed about the nuclear power plant projects being pushed through by President Obama. The representative said that Greenpeace is against nuclear power plants.

Well, I have always been a fan of the Greenpeace organization. They usually do rallies and symposiums in rv parks to educate the public about environmental concerns. I remember signing up with them once and donating some cash to show my support. This time, I’m not so sure that I agree about their opinion about nuclear power. Greenpeace kept on insisting using alternative energy sources instead of fossil fuels (main cause of global warming). These sources include wind energy, solar energy, and geothermal energy. Although these can be used as additional energy sources, they CANNOT be used as base power sources.

As regards to investments, a nuclear power plant will cost a lot cheaper than other energy sources when compared with the same amount of energy output. Not to mention that the nuclear plant is the most efficient energy source available. Moreover, regarding toxic wastes, solar panels contain toxic chemicals responsible for the conversion of sunlight to electricity.

I really think the opinion of Greenpeace is biased because of the influence of fuel companies. I know I am not an expert in this matter, this is just my opinion anyway, but I think the discovery of nuclear energy was intended for great purpose, not for nuclear bombs but for an efficient energy source. So please, let’s support our government especially President Obama on this project.

Taking A Break

Since work has been quite stressful for me lately, I was thinking about getting a vacation. Somewhere with outer banks, or something. Just a relaxing atmosphere is all I need.

Mellow music is a good way for me to relax myself, as well. It keeps me emotionally healthy, since when I feel like screaming, it calms me. I don’t know how, but it does. Try listening to mellow music. It calms the soul in my opinion.

Good Deals

Yesterday Joyce Mic Vic and I talked about the last 2008 and what we got as huge ground breaking deals last year. Joyce said she got herself a new condo finally without the balloon payment to worry about. Mic bought himself a yacht and he’s planning to sail next month. Vic on the other hand got himself a beautiful silver Volvo with no down payment auto insurance.
We were all in our mid 20s and we all felt very accomplished for the past year. Now we started talking about doing a bucket list together for the year. It’s going to be a good drive for this year. Considering that I’ll be doing the list adventure with my good old friends.

Chicken Soup for a Stressful Day

It’s just eleven in the morning yet I am already close to reaching my stress limit. I took the afternoon off and decided to do my weekly shopping ahead of my usual schedule hoping that it would help me somewhat loosen up a bit.

As I was walking around the sweets section, I noticed a kid having trouble getting a box of candy. Momentarily forgetting my foolishness (I left the grocery list at the office), I walk towards the kid and handed her the box of candy. She thanked me profusely and happily run to an elder woman which I think was her mom. I noticed that the kids movement were stiff and her head swings a little every now and then. Later on I found out that these are symptoms of people suffering from cerebral palsy and That there are about half a million Americans suffering from this congenital disorder.

These people with little control of their body still find reasons to be grateful. No matter how many problems we face, we still are in full control of our life. The kid made me realize that no matter how stressful our life is, there is still a lot to be thankful for.

Traveling Benefits

I’m planning to use my miles points for my summer outing next month. A friend suggested that I apply for travel insurance online before I go on a trip like this one. Since almost every property I have is insured (cars, house, cell phones) I think it will be better if I get an insurance for myself. Anyway, I love to travel! Not only because it’s fun but because it keeps me healthy. Yep, you heard me right. Traveling keeps me healthy.

“Voyage, travel, and change of place impart vigor.” –from Seneca, a first Century philosopher once said. This is really true, and I can attest to this. Whenever I travel my overall health improves. I also get a deeper sleep after my vacation. Research proves that taking vacations lowers our levels of epinephrine – a hormone released when in stress. Because of this, blood pressure and heart rate are regulated and normalized. So with this I say, traveling really is beneficial to health.

To love is human

My five year old nephew said “I want a Lassie” when I asked what he wanted for his upcoming birthday. When I asked him why he wanted a dog, he happily answered “coz it’s cute and friendly”. I’m glad he asked for a dog rather than an iphone (haha). Anyhow, do you ever wonder why people love pets?

As we see nowadays, households have a pet or two which is treated as a family member. These pets have their own room with their own pet beds and some even sleep with their owners. Research suggests that man’s love of pets started way beyond civilization. There are already evidences showing that man domesticated animals not for food but for companionship. So why people love pets is just plain human nature.

My sister and I have been going through some tough time with work and our respective relationships lately. I told her it’ll be a good break if we head to an outer banks vacation house that’s located on the south side. Going on vacation is not really a problem for me since I was finally off the hot months at work but for her it took a lot of rescheduling for us to finally rent the house.

So finally on Thursday next week we’re heading there for 2 weeks. I hope the clean break finally cools our heads off and we can finally see thing clearer on what’s been really going on with our lives.

Where Yoga Found Me

Of all the vacations that I had, I will always remember my Orlando vacations which would actually happen twice a year. My aunt has been residing there for 6 years and ever since she went and lived there I would always pay her a visit. My aunt was the one who got me into yoga 2 years ago. I had poor health when I started. I was smoking 2 packs a day, when I walk I would wear crutches because of my meniscal tears, I was an insomniac, and alcohol was part of my diet.
But the summer 2 years ago changed everything and ever since then my health keeps getting better and better. Yoga detoxified all my bad dependencies and rehabilitated my knees completely. It changed my body but moreover it changed my life. My stay in Orlando was definitely the best gift that I gave myself and if wasn’t for my aunt I wouldn’t make that huge turnover.

Yoga as a Way of Life

I was staring at the Discount Blinds that we got 2 years ago at a home depot for 3 straight hours when I decided to do yoga. I can never skip a day without doing any yoga pose. It has helped me a lot ever since I started. My former injuries just keeps getting better and better and it helped my back pains that I’ve started experiencing ever since I have been doing work on the desk for so many hours. It improved my skin complexion as well and the meditation helped me be calmer at anything that I do. Yoga indeed improved my overall totality and it has become a way of life for me.

I actually got a couple of my own friends hooked on it also. And I got the same feedback - it also helped them a lot. If there’s one thing that I’ll stick with for the rest of my life, it’s yoga.
